He joined De Pol Associates in 2014 having previously worked for a Warrington-based regeneration consultancy and a multi-disciplinary property consultancy in Liverpool.
Chris has a Masters in Planning from the University of Liverpool.
Although Chris advises clients on a range of planning issues and across a number of sectors his main focus is providing advice on town centre uses and retail led developments, as well as residential schemes. For the last decade Chris has advised a major national retailer on the whole range of retail planning issues – from securing permissions for new stores in out-of-centre locations to advising on objections to competing proposals and town centre redevelopment schemes.
His successes in securing planning permission include:
- A £80m regeneration project – with 9,500 sq m of housing, leisure, retail and a nature reserve – on the site of a former brickworks in Cottam, Preston;
- A 60-bedroom Travelodge, at Wirral International Business Park, on a site next to a scheduled ancient monument and in an out-of-centre location;
- A development of 134 homes in Darwen, Lancashire, having secured the site’s release from the green belt and its allocation for residential development through the Local Plan process.
Chris also has an excellent track record in securing planning permission for family housing, apartments and headquarter office space, in areas of flood risk. By applying his knowledge and experience he’s been able to prove – through flood risk sequential tests – that there have been no sites suitable or available outside of flood risk areas that could accommodate the developments.
Chris is a member of the Royal Town Planning Institute and has previously served on their North West Regional Activities Committee.
