National frozen food retailer Iceland has started the New Year with the opening of a new store on Old Kent Road, London as a result of De Pol Associates successfully removing a historical planning condition which prevented the sale of food goods from the premises.
Iceland selected the out-of-centre premises on Old Kent Road, London as part of the retailer’s ongoing supermarket expansion. The original planning consent for the retail unit, which has a gross floor area of approximately 1300sqm, restricted the premises to the sale of non-food goods only due to its location outside of a designated centre.
We prepared and submitted an application to Southwark Council with a supporting statement which includes a planning policy appraisal and Retail Sequential Test. We successfully demonstrated in light of the Council’s Core Strategy and The London Plan, the restrictive condition should be removed.
Iceland will take up occupancy of the store within the next few months.
