Householder planning permission was successfully obtained from Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council for the erection of a double garage and external alterations to a former farmhouse in the Darwen Green Belt.
The outbuilding would be ancillary to the residential use of a 17th century former farmhouse set in an elevated position in the local landscape.
Development within the Green Belt is subject to strict control and De Pol worked closely with Council officers and architectural consultants, Mellor Architects, to design a scheme of an appropriate scale and depth to ensure that the new outbuilding would not result in a disproportionate addition to the host dwelling. It was also necessary to site the garage in close proximity to the former farmhouse to prevent the sprawl of development on the site and all external facing materials were selected to reflect the character and appearance of the host dwelling.
De Pol also assisted the property owner to carry out a number of external alterations to the former farmhouse including a single storey extension and the installation of substantial glazing on the principal elevation to maximise views of the open countryside.
